Vote for Sand Tax results

The unofficial vote tallies are now posted on the Dare County Website.  The vote to repeal the 1% sales tax for beach nourishment is as follows:

• For        5,463  78%
• Against  1,531  22%

Kitty Hawk gets a berm

Kitty Hawk finally started installing a berm last week.  Many are complaining about the dark color of the sand.  The sand actually came from a sand pit and it is expected to lighten up over time.

Today is also the last day to vote for or against the repeal of the sand tax.  As these pictures show, there is not much room between the houses and the high tide mark.  Voter turnout was high considering this was the only item on the ballot. 

 

Fireworks still somewhat legal in Corolla

The Currituck County Sheriff's Department will not completely ban all fireworks this year.  A group of concerned homeowners banned together and asked that the county make all fireworks illegal according to this article published in The Daily Advance.  They were concerned that exploding fireworks could burn down some of the expensive Real Estate. 

Even though you are not supposed to light fireworks that fly and explode - head down to the beach in Corolla on the Fourth of July - You might catch a glimpse of some illegal activity.
