Bonner Bridge Update

The Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne recently announced his support for the shorter version of a replacement of the Bonner Bridge which would not bypass Pea Island Wildlife Refuge.  The estimated replacement costs are $191 million compared to almost $800 million for the 17.5 mile proposal which would extend into the sound and bypass the refuge.

Bernanke still concerned about inflation

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is still concerned about inflation - so it looks like the Feds will raise rates again in August.  The increase will bump prime up to 8.5% for most lending institutions.  This will have a direct affect on Home Equity Lines of Credit, some credit cards and car loans. 

2 Miles of Sand Extreme XC Foot Race in Nags Head

2 Miles of Sand Extreme XC Foot Race will be held this year at Jockey's Ridge on Saturday August 19, 2006 at 10:00 AM.  The proceeds of the race benefit the Manteo High School Cross Country Team.  Sponsors include Sound Feet Shoes, The Outer Banks Running Club and Jockey's Ridge State Park.  The OBX Swim Club will be handing out sandwiches and drinks.   Entries are due on or before August 10, 2006.  For more information, contact Ed Beckley.

Tropical Depression off NC coast

Tropical Depression 2 is churning off the Outer Banks.  As you can see from the map, we are in for a windy week.  If the storm strengthens as predicted, it will be named Beryl.

The weather at the beach is hot and there is not a cloud in the sky.  Waves are knee high and the water is warm.  Let's hope the storm stays on the eastern track. 

New Shipwrecks found in local waters

Several shipwrecks have been discovered in Currituck this week.  All three ships were found in the Currituck Sound and are believed to be over 100 years old. 

BeachHuggers and Beach Nourishment on the Outer Banks

An article was posted today on Outer Banks View - Pancho is dealing with the BeachHuggers.  I believe the anti-beach nourishment group would be much more effective if they left out personal attacks and stuck to the facts.

Have you seen this icon popping up all over the web lately?  It has become the standard logo for blog feeds.  Blogs and similar technology such as Podcasts (audio blogs) and Vlogs (video blogs) are growing rapidly in popularity across the web.  Many news organizations, companies and individuals are harnessing the power of RSS syndication to push their message to the masses.  So why do 49% of interactive marketers say they don't plan on using blogs in the next year? 

I am not quite sure they understand the power of the technology. Debbie Weil, author of The Corporate Blogging Book - Absolutely everything you need to know to get it right. which is due to be released August 3, 2006 will help answer the questions many executives and entrepreneurs have about blog technology.
