Seems Paula the Queen of the Surf Pirates has started to fight back and I want to join the cause. We have a very vocal and vicious opponent to beach nourishment on the Outer Banks. The leader of the pack is Ray Midgett from Beachuggers - aka Overwash and he attacks anyone associated with beach nourishment. A few years ago, I ran into Ray at the beach and even asked for input on his side of the debate. I don't mind people that have differing opinions, I just really don't care for those that use bully tactics. Ray has made personal threats towards myself and others that support beach nourishment and his behavior is unacceptable. There is even a web site dedicated to documenting his threatening and outrageous comments.
I applaud Paula for stepping up to the plate. Too many times we see bullies get their way because society is afraid to confront ridiculous behavior. If you allow bullies to get their way once, it encourages them to continue their poor behavior.
Update - I have already deleted a comment that was not acceptable from this post. Bob Muller set up a Deleted Comments blog specifically as a repository to track these types of comments. I have also linked to the Support Responsible Commenting website. Thanks Bob for the timely information.
Ronnie you don't necessarily have to be an opponent to replenishment to catch his abuse or to be a target of his strong armed tactics... I am an opponent of beach nourishment as you know and my very first contact ever with this individual was a series of demands by him that I remove certain links from my page.
It is the first and only time anyone has ever done this to me in all of my time blogging and as you know mine is not really what you would call a particularly issues oriented page. But I do have a stat counter installed on my page and let me tell you the amount of time he come there in the course of a day is almost stalkerish.
