The late Thomas "Tip" O'Neil - the longtime House of Representative and former speaker of the house once said "All Politics is Local". Two of my favorite local blogs that cover politics are the Outer Banks Republic and View From the Ridge. We have another that has joined the fold - ex elected official David Sanders from my town of Southern Shores aka "Nine holes and a nap". I think politicians shouldn't wait until after they are out of office to start a blog.
Monty from the Outer Banks Republic posted about the upcoming Dare County Commissioners race. At question was whether Warren Judge should be re-elected Dare Commissioner (this thread is from a local message board - it doesn't look like a nice place to hang out). Reading some of the nasty messages and the twisting of facts really disturbs me. I know Monty, ex Mayor Bob and Paula and I have had to deal with this kind of poor behavior in the past - it came from one man with many pen names - Ray Midgett. The beauty of technology - once you publish a comment online - the comment and it's ID are there forever. Now I can't say for sure that Ray is responsible for writing some of these comments on the message board - but when it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Rumor is that Ray wants to oppose Warren Judge in this years election. We should all know pretty soon.
One of the problems with message boards such as this is the fact that people can make totally absurd comments and some take them as facts. If you want to see the Outer Banks at it's worst - read some of the trash posted here.
In my opinion, Warren has done a fine job as County Commissioner. Dare County is facing one of it's most challenging times in recent history - we need a stable leader. Let's hope the ducks stay in Southern Shores.
